Winter is here and there's a chance with all the rain that the bees are hungry.
One of the quickest ways to support a bee colony is to feed it sugar water. Do the following:
- Mix one part water to one part sugar and dissolve over heat. As soon as dissolved, let cool.
- Add any supplement such as Hive Alive as per supplement instructions.
- Pour qty into ziplock bag - about half and seal.
- Place in hive along tops of frames and carefully slit package when it is in-situ. The bees will come to the slit and drink from the slit.
It's advisable if there are weaker hives in your apiary to ensure you feed all hives to stop robbing occurring. Harvesting of honey should also be avoided for at least a 4-6 week period as it is may contain sugar water.
